Online Income Report #039 – July 2015

Each month I publish a fully transparent income report which documents my online earnings. These income reports exist to demonstrate my progress, share my experiences, and motivate others who want to make money online.

Check out my online income report for July 2015.

daysoffWhat I Did In July

I recently made the decision to reduce my active workload, and that’s reflected this month.

Taking A Break

After looking back at my income reports for the year so far I can clearly see why I’m burnt out right now. Month after month, I have been putting in the hours and pushing myself to achieve a variety of ambitious goals. I haven’t had time for a decent break in almost a year.

This has taken a noticeable toll, so towards the end of July (and into early August) I took some time off to relax and recover. Hopefully I can book a holiday later this year but for now I’m feeling better. I still got some work done – mostly writing – but July definitely wasn’t the most productive month.

Other Stuff

I worked 78 productive hours in July and took 12/31 days off.

I’m currently playing Hearthstone, watching Vikings, and Ex Machina was the best movie I saw this month.

Platform Overview

Here’s a quick look at how my online platform performed during July 2015.

stats-julyGames

The games I publish were played 776,447 times (27,684,026 total).

Traffic to my HTML5 games was slightly up this month. It would be nice to get back above a million users but I definitely can’t complain about these numbers.

Websites

My websites were viewed 39,546 times (5,423,561 total) by 17,599 unique visitors.

Website traffic was again almost identical to last month. I seem to have developed a loyal audience at this point with about 5,000 people tuning in for a new income report each month (thank you!)

Subscribers

I have a total of 31,476 subscribers across various platforms, up 1,041 from last month. My current Klout score of 54.03 places me in the top 10% of influential social media users.

Twitter – 20,081 (+886) ¹ ² ³
Facebook – 7,611 (+29) ¹ ² ³
Newsletters – 3,626 (+123)
Twitch – 158 (+3) ¹

Social media growth was decent, and particularly strong on Twitter (even though I haven’t been as active as usual). Newsletter growth remains consistently high.

You can subscribe to my newsletter at the end of this post.

Online Income Report

Unsurprisingly, this month’s profits were the lowest of the year so far. Lately I’m feeling disconnected from money…the past year has set me up fairly well financially, and I haven’t had to stress about my income performance quite as much as I used to. I can have a few comparatively “bad” months and not be affected by them.

income-report-july-2015

During July 2015 I earned $2,948 solely online ($225,732 total), down $1,489 from last month. My average income over the past 12 months is $7,136 so this was a significantly below average month.

Summary

Overall, I’m feeling good about how July went. It wasn’t a memorable month but I definitely needed it. I’m planning to maintain a slower pace throughout the rest of the year. I need to be careful not to start any new ambitious projects, or get too distracted from my main income sources.

Thanks for reading!

Everyone needs a holiday, I have recently just had a week off in Spain just to relax and not think about any work related stuff. That’s my first proper holiday in 5 years… So i would suggest taking holidays for your health and well being to come back refreshed and wanting to work :)

    • Matthew says:

I just got back from a 4 day holiday – a little short, but it was definitely needed. I’ll share a photo in my next income report.

Wow you have so many subscribers. Im jealous! You definitely work hard and obviously its paying off. Sorry to hear about the slower month but its still amazing how much income you average. Thanks for posting.

    • Matthew says:

I remember having only about 300 subscribers back in 2012. Being able to connect with so many people now is incredible.

  • Victor says:

    Hey Matthew, awesome work man!
I love how you are so transparent and nice to share all these numbers with us.
    Thx

  • That is not really bad Matthew,
You still did well for the month of July not withstanding that you took a break which is also a very good thing.

Its always advisable that we take some time off once awhile at least, this will enable us to have some rest, meditate, think and position our mind for the next things.

  • TubeMice says:

congrats Matt, as always a good post
I would kindly advice you to play less hearthstone :) It’s just too addictive and will definitely slow down your regular work progress
    Regards

    • Matthew says:

Haha, too late – I have been playing since the beta and I’m well and truly addicted.

  • Jeff says:

I highly recommend staying away from online poker. You are doing great and are successful doing what you enjoy. Online poker (no matter what limits you play) is seriously addictive and will distract you from your work and life. It’s easy to get wrapped up in and to lose your hard earned income and that would be a shame. Wishing you the best and keep up the good work!

  • Lap202 says:

Next you are going to announce a #rooboot right ;P

    • Matthew says:

Maybe one day ;) Good to see you around here.

      • Lap202 says:

Haha I read, been quiet for awhile. Finished a stint in the military and just working these days. Hoping to get back into game development soon. Glad to see you have been so successful without my awesome suggestions ;)

  • Zizka says:

Wow, you’re making quite a living off your online entreprises. It’s cool that you’re transparent about it (and gives me hope for myself!) See you at TIG.
